EAMPLE of the digital TAM-BULLETIN

by Ruud Janssen

The example of the text below is the TAM-BULLETIN as it was distributed in November 1990. It was a ASCII-text file that was distributed through the BBS-system and also sometimes was sent as a e-mail message.

====t=h=e==n=e=w===m=a=i=l==a=r=t===m=a=g=a=z=i=n=e====90.11===
The computerized TAM-bulletin started in 1987 . Before that
time the TAM-bulletin was a 'normal magazine' on paper. There
is no copyright on this text-file as long as you keep it
intact. The TAM-Bulletin may be distributed freely. Updates
will be made each two months. This is MESSAGE NO:1990.11 made
on Oktober 31th 1990

For people who are not familiar with mail-art it is good to
know that there are a few 'unwritten' rules with a mail-art project:
-1- All contributions will be used for the exhibition (no jury)
-2- The contributions normally won't be send back.
-3- Participants receive documentation (any form is possible !)
    about the results.
-4- The Postal Media must be used to transmit your art. (Mail,
FAX,Telephone,Computer,etc..). Most project are done by
mail So if you want to do your own project ; please keep this
in mind. If you want to send your info about a project: send
electronic mail to the mentioned BBS's

[1] During the last vacation (August 1990) I met several Mail-
artists personaly. Shozo Shimamoto , Ryosuke Cohen and Mayumi
Handa from Japan were in Köln where I met them. Also Géza
Perneczky , Harald 'Sack' Ziegler , Willy Förster from Germany
and Charles Fran‡ois , Triangle and J. Spiroux from Belgium
were there. Also during my visite in Amsterdam I met Jenny de
Groot and Joris Meltzer again. TOURISM at it best , where mail-
artists don't send their art by mail , but meet in person.
[2] The booklet "MY HISTORY IN MAIL-ART" is being sent out.
Only a small number of copies is printed. If you're interested
in reading about my mail-art activities in the last 10 years ,
just let me know!
[3] I'm still collecting statements from mail-artists about
mail- art. This will result in a new publication which will
come out in the beginning og 1991. Send in your STATEMENTS!
[4] The latest news about the INTERNATIONAL UNION OF MAIL-
ARTISTS (I.U.O.M.A.) is that a new UNION-magazine will come out
in 1991.I'm working on the content at the moment. Even a
special project started two weeks ago to ask mail-artists about
their opinion if a UNION is nessecary. Members of the
I.U.O.M.A. received so far stickers and a membership-card. The
new UNION-mag will follow.

The TAM-Bulletin is made with the program WordPerfect Version
5.1 It is uploaded in ASCII-Format because that is the form
which is best accessible for Bulletin Board Services.
It is possible to create your own 'nice' version of this TAM
Bulletin by transferring the ASCII-data to a text-processor
which has lots of possibilities. Then you can print-out this
version and spread it around to your mail-art friend. If
possible please send me a copy of this printed version! Thanks
in advance.

The TAM-bulletin changes rapidly. The text is made with the
programm WordPerfect (version 5.1 Dutch) on a SIREX XT 20 MB.
Maybe in the future all graphic possibilities will be used and
the TAM-Bulletin will be a WP-file. This issue still is an
ASCII-file to improve acces for all. The file is uploaded in
.ZIP format to keep data-communication time short for all.
